College Trip to London Leads to National Art Prize

A talented art student has won a national prize for his stunning photos of London buildings seen through water.

Damian Kalinski, from Thetford, was one of five West Suffolk College students whose work was selected from thousands of art students around the country to be part of just 100 exhibits in the University of Arts London showcase ‘Origins 2017’ in Brick Lane.

Nineteen-year-old Damian’s pictures, ‘Reflections’, were judged to be the best of the level 2 exhibits. He took the pictures of architectural images during a college trip to London then created final works which showed the buildings through Autumn water.

Derek Johnson, director of the School of Art and Design said: “To have five pieces chosen is a remarkably high number from one college and a wonderful testament to the standards we achieve as a team. Damian’s pictures are amazing and for him to be judged the best nationally is fantastic.”

More than 100 students from the School of Art and Design have achieved places to study art subjects at top universities.  Students from Art, Graphic Design, Fashion, Textiles, Photography, Interactive Media and Digital Arts are off to renowned art universities such as Chelsea, Central St Martins, Goldsmiths, Camberwell, Falmouth, London College of Fashion, Norwich University of Arts and Nottingham Trent.
